For decades, the Russian hockey team was a gritty gold medal machine bulldozing Americans off the ice. Down 3-2 in the third quarter of a 1980 semi-final game, U.S. skater Mark Johnson zigzagged through defenders and launched a rocket into the net to tie. Just 81 seconds later, teammate Mike Eruzione streaked up the ice, slamming the puck past the startled Russian goalie. The U.S. went on to defeat Finland to win the gold.
